SUMMARY:Pick of the Litter
DESCRIPTION:Film in the Community\, a program of RMWF\, shares films monthly at locations around our city. Join us on June 16 in partnership with the Colorado Springs Senior Center. \nPick of the Litter follows a litter of puppies from the moment they’re born and begin their quest to become guide dogs for the blind. Cameras follow these pups through an intense two-year odyssey as they train to become dogs whose ultimate responsibility is to protect their blind partners from harm. Along the way\, these remarkable animals rely on a community of dedicated individuals who train them to do amazing\, life-changing things in the service of their human. The stakes are high and not every dog can make the cut. Only the best of the best. The pick of the litter. With deft storytelling skill\, directors Dana Nachman and Don Hardy (the two previously co-directed the feature docs The Human Experiment\, Witch Hunt\, and Love Hate Love) introduce us to a group of unique canine characters along with their human counterparts. Pick of the Litter is a wonderful reminder of the extraordinary relationships we have with our dogs\, especially those that we work beside each day. \nRegister to Attend

SUMMARY:Dolores
DESCRIPTION:Each month we present a film from a past Festival on the screen at Rocky Mountain Women’s Film office inside the Lincoln School. These screenings are free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $5. BYOB and a snack or simply show up for an inspirational evening! \n\nDolores Huerta is among the most important\, yet least known\, activists in American history. An equal partner in co-founding the first farm workers unions with Cesar Chavez\, her enormous contributions have gone largely unrecognized. Dolores tirelessly led the fight for racial and labor justice alongside Chavez\, becoming one of the most defiant feminists of the twentieth century—and she continues the fight to this day\, at 87. With intimate and unprecedented access to this intensely private mother to eleven\, the film reveals the raw\, personal stakes involved in committing one’s life to social change. Directed by Peter Bratt. \n\nDoors open at 6pm\, Film begins at 6:30pm. Suggested $5 donation. All are welcome. \nRegister to Attend

SUMMARY:American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez
DESCRIPTION:An auteur emerges from America’s underclass: from migrant farmworker to revolutionary artist\, Luis Valdez changed American culture. In the 1960s\, his El Teatro Campesino performed on flatbed trucks and helped mobilize workers to win the first farmworker union contract. His “Zoot Suit” was the first Chicano play on Broadway. Despite critical rejection that killed the show\, he persevered\, creating “La Bamba”—a breakout blockbuster that authentically depicted Mexican-American life to the world. Now in its 60th year\, El Teatro continues to be a beacon for Latino/a creators. This is the story of an artist who gave voice to the overlooked and opened pathways for generations. \nDuration: 1h 32m \nDoors open at 6pm; Film starts at 7pm \nBuy Tickets

SUMMARY:A Reckoning In Boston
DESCRIPTION:Each month we present a film from a past Festival on the screen at Rocky Mountain Women’s Film office inside the Lincoln School. These screenings are free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $5. BYOB and a snack or simply show up for an inspirational evening! This month’s screening features the film A Reckoning In Boston in partnership with Citizen’s Project. \n\nKafi Dixon is a Boston bus driver and urban farmer who seeks equity for low-income women of color who have experienced trauma and disenfranchisement. Carl Chandler\, a community elder wants to tell his family’s story to the wider world. They gather with twenty other adults living along the poverty line at a community center in Boston to study art\, history\, philosophy and literature in a rigorous yearlong tuition-free night course. Kafi reads dialogues about the city in Plato’s Republic\, yet faces rejection in her own hometown\, a prosperous metropolis swept up by the allure of development and gentrification. Carl\, a disabled senior citizen who raised two daughters as a single father\, cares for his grandson and reads voraciously. James Rutenbeck\, a white filmmaker from the suburbs\, has come here to document their lives. Over five years he witnesses evictions\, chaos and calm persistence. He wants to remain a witness and allow Carl and Kafi to tell their own stories\, but over time comes to understand the film cannot be fully realized until he speaks up too. \n\nDoors open at 6pm\, Film begins at 6:30pm. Suggested $5 donation. All are welcome. \nRegister to Attend \n\n \nDuration: 83 min

SUMMARY:Film of the Month – 399: Queen of the Tetons
DESCRIPTION:Bring the magic to your living room with Virtual Film of the Month and stream 399: QUEEN OF THE TETONS\, a stunning documentary about the world’s most famous grizzly bear\, anytime in April for just $10 — over half of the proceeds of each ticket supports the filmmaker. \nFor nearly two decades\, Grizzly #399 a fixture in Grand Teton National Park. Known only by her research number\, #399 has captivated photographers\, both professional and amateur\, since 2007\, becoming the most photographed and famous grizzly in the world. But more important than her photogenic nature is the large number of cubs\, 18 total\, she mothered over her lifetime. As the documentary opens\, hundreds have gathered\, awaiting her first appearance following winter hibernation. When she finally emerges from her den\, she is accompanied by an extremely rare four cub litter. But an uphill battle lies ahead: cubs face a 50% mortality rate in their first year\, and danger is everywhere. Crowds of photographers\, tourists\, and wildlife rangers watch as #399 teaches her young to swim\, scavenge\, and survive along the park’s roadsides. The bears’ proximity to humans offers protection against other predators\, including male grizzlies\, that are deterred by crowds\, but there is also an attendant risk of habituation—a loss of their natural fear response—which could have deadly consequences. Exploring issues around wildlife management\, environmentalism\, and eco-tourism\, 399: Queen of the Tetons offers a complex portrait of ursine-human relations\, as continuously in flux as the landscape binding them together. \nBuy a Ticket

DESCRIPTION:Each month we present a film from a past Festival on the screen at Rocky Mountain Women’s Film office inside the Lincoln School. This month join us for OTHER SIDE\, featured at the 2025 Festival. These screenings are free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $5. \nAfter three separate cancer diagnoses\, and undergoing nauseating and difficult treatment for each one\, Connecticut-based activist Lynda Bluestein set her sights on medical aid in dying. \nThis compassionate end-of-life option was not available in her home state\, so she filed a lawsuit against the state of Vermont to gain access to their Death With Dignity law\, Act 39 – and she won. \nA rich portrait of a fearless activist\, matriarch\, and fallible human\, this feature documentary follows Lynda and her family over the course of a year as they navigate life and prepare for her inevitable death. But will her life end the way she intends it to? \nGuest Speaker Dr. Bob Munson will participate in a Q&A after the film. \nRegister to Attend
