Red Fever uncovers the surprising truths behind the imagery — so buried in history that even most Native people don`t know about them.

Following in her brother’s footsteps\, Mary’s remarkable racing odyssey begins in the world of cars\, where she outshines her male competitors\, only to later discover her greatest sense of freedom racing motorcycles. Mary pushes herself to greater and greater heights—culminating in her most hair-raising challenge: Attempting to become the first person ever to solo the grueling Baja 500 on a motorcycle. \nSTRONG GRANDMA\nDirected by Cecilia Brown & Winslow Crane-Murdoch\n95-year-old Catherine Kuehn is a world record winning deadlifter. Featuring rare archival footage\, NOBUKO MIYAMOTO: A SONG IN MOVEMENT is a story of a changing community told through the singular life of one of its most beloved storytellers.

Her first assignment with CNN is to cover the riots that followed Indira Gandhi’s assassination in India. She goes on to cover conflicts in Africa\, the Middle East and fatally\, the Bosnian war. In vivid\, emotional detail\, we see what Moth saw and how she in turn changed what we\, the television viewer\, saw. A rollicking ride through sex\, drugs and war\, NEVER LOOK AWAY is war from a female perspective; as you have never seen it before.

SUMMARY:Film in the Community: A RECKONING IN BOSTON
DESCRIPTION:Potluck begins at 5:00 pm. All are welcome.\nFilm screening at 6:00 pm.\nKafi Dixon dreams of starting a land cooperative for women of color who have experienced trauma and disenfranchisement in the city of Boston. By day she drives a city bus; at night she studies the humanities in a tuition-free course. Her classmate Carl Chandler\, a community elder\, is the class’ intellectual leader.  White suburban filmmaker James Rutenbeck documents the students’ engagement with the humanities. He looks for transformations but is awakened to the violence\, racism\, and gentrification that threaten Kafi and Carl’s very place in the city. Troubled by his failure to bring the film together\, he enlists the pair as collaborators with a share in the film revenues. Five years on\, despite many obstacles\, Kafi and Carl arrive at surprising new places in their lives—and James does too.\nPresented in partnership with The Chinook Center.

The film takes audiences on a personal journey\, weaving together these two officers’ experiences during their daily encounters with people in crisis. These two officers are not your everyday cops. They are part of the San Antonio Police Department’s Mental Health Unit.

DESCRIPTION:Circle of Support members are invited to join us for cocktails and conversation with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Cynthia Wade.\nCynthia has had seven films screened at the festival and we are honored to be hosting her for an evening of conversation\, where she will be talking about the peaks and valleys of documentary filmmaking\, including clips from several films.\nAbout Circle of Support:\nMore than 30 years ago a group of women created the original Circle of Support\, providing the financial foundation for our cornerstone event\, the Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival. Since that time\, we have grown to be more than a film festival\, hosting exciting events and screenings throughout the year. Funding from the Circle of Support allows Rocky Mountain Women’s Film to provide year-round programming.\nCircle of Support Members get access to private\, behind-the-scenes events\, early festival tickets\, and the knowledge that they are the reason we can create community through film and amplify the voices of women filmmakers. With affectionate humor\, Margolin employs the familiar tropes of the action genre in hilarious\, age-appropriate ways to tackle themes of aging\, mortality\, and human frailty. We look forward to sharing this film and inspiring conversation within our community.\n——-\nTHE FLAGMAKERS\n[PLAY TRAILER]\nFrom National Geographic Documentary Films\, Academy Award-winning director Cynthia Wade\, award-winning director Sharon Liese and executive producer Giannis Antetokounmpo\, THE FLAGMAKERS poses one of today’s most pressing questions: who is the American flag for?\nEmployee-owned Eder Flag in Oak Creek\, Wisconsin\, sews and ships five million American flags a year. The flagmakers — locals\, immigrants and refugees — stitch stars and stripes as they wrestle with identity and belonging. Sewing manager Radica\, a Serbian immigrant\, believes every flag has a soul. Ali\, a war survivor from Iraq\, is learning how to use a sewing machine after arriving in the United States just 90 days prior. Midwestern-born Barb’s genuine friendships with her immigrant co-workers belie her staunchly conservative beliefs. SugarRay\, a Black man born and raised in Milwaukee\, reflects on his complicated relationship with this country. Found by Joseph Horn and Frank Hardart in 1888\, it revolutionized the nation’s restaurant scene with comfortable interiors\, quality food\, and state of the art technology for the early 20th century. The chain welcomed those who had been ignored\, including immigrants\, the working-class\, Blacks\, and women\, all of whom were often not welcome in restaurants. Horn & Hardart’s technology captured the public’s imagination like nothing else in 1900’s— the customer put nickels into slots and little windows opened to reveal the customer’s pick\, be it a slice of pie\, macaroni and cheese\, or a Salisbury steak. The gleaming glass and stainless-steel windows looked “sanitary” and like nothing else in existence. “The Automat” illustrates how the company both served the public with great food and at the same time treated its employees with fairness and integrity. \nThe documentary’s theme song written in the Great American Songbook genre “(There Was Nothing Like The Coffee) At the Automat” was composed by comedian and writer Mel Brooks\, who speaks with great affection about his days eating at the Automat. Brooks’ composer Hummie Mann is credited with writing the rest of the film’s score\, which was done in the Gentleman’s Swing genre\, and performed by a 26-piece orchestra.\nMel Brooks is one of several prominent Americans paying homage in the film to the memory of a restaurant chain that once dotted the corners of two great cities. The late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg\, Secretary of State Colin Powell\, actors Carl Reiner and Elliott Gould\, the Horn family and the Hardart family\, and dedicated former employees share memories of life at the Automat. Starbucks Coffee founder Howard Schultz talks about how he was inspired to start his company because of Horn and Hardart.\nThe Automats were also known for their outstanding décor with grand entrances and luxurious interior spaces embellished in Carrara marble and brass fixtures. Joseph Horn and Frank Hardart felt that inexpensive food should still be served in an elegant setting. Coffee dispensers featured dolphin head spouts out of which coffee cascaded\, tables were marble\, and windows framed in brass. A cashier mounted in the center made change so you could put your nickels and dimes into the slots of the little door windows to get your slice of pie\, macaroni and cheese or a salisbury steak\, which magically appeared from behind the other side of the wall.\nHorn and Hardart was a favorite location for dozens of movies and televisions shows. Jean Arthur bantered with Ray Milland in front of the three-nickel pie slot\, and Cary Grant spotted Doris Day entering the store.\nDirector Lisa Hurwitz spent eight years interviewing dozens of celebrities and former employees and visiting far-flung places where collectors hoard the surviving remnants of the once spectacular Automat restaurants. The audience will enjoy an endearing first time look into one of the most successful business ventures of its time through the eyes of those touched by their experiences.

At five feet tall and 97 years old\, Diana is larger than life: a foul-mouthed fireball far more feisty and energetic than her age and petite frame let on. Author of nine Mexican cookbooks\, she has spent over 60 years researching and documenting the regional cuisines of Mexico. Kennedy has lived ‘off-the-grid’ on an eight-acre ranch outside Zitácuaro\, Michoacán since the 1970’s: composting\, growing her own crops\, and using solar power to run her home. The Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival showcases documentary\, narrative\, shorts\, and animated films that are thought-provoking\, enriching\, and encourage both global awareness and personal growth.\nRocky Mountain Women’s Film kicks off a three-day celebration of cinema with an opening night celebration at the Cornerstone Arts Center at Colorado College followed by two full days of film screenings. Over the course of the weekend\, approximately 40 films will be presented at four venues across the Colorado College campus. This powerful film brings to the surface the ever-present questions of representation in casting: what do we consider a universal role\, how does modern casting rectify the injustices in years past\, and how do casting directors decide who is best for a role?The most important questions to tackle are often the most uncomfortable.\n \nEAT FLOWERS\nDirected by River Finlay\nWhen photographer and writer Cig Harvey discovers her best friend is diagnosed with Leukemia\, she sets out to fill her world with color and light. Eat Flowers is story about living.\n \nAMPE: LEAP INTO THE SKY\, BLACK GIRL\nDirected by Claudia Owusu and Ife Oluwamuyide\nAmpe: Leap into the Sky\, Black Girl is a documentary film by Ghanaian/Nigerian artists Claudia Owusu and Ife Oluwamuyide. Set in Accra\, Ghana and their hometown Columbus\, OH\, the film is a rhythmic love letter to Black girlhood through the lens of the Ghanaian jumping and clapping game\, ampe.\nAmpe is a high-energy game played by girls in Ghana\, West Africa. It includes jumping\, clapping\, and an all-around cheer as two teams select a stepping pattern and face off. The teams have leading players\, referred to as “mothers”\, who start the game and encourage players to compete at their best. The innate joy and competitive edge of ampe reveals the desire that Black girls have to be set free and feel a range of emotions without judgment.

Four decades later\, the little girl-turned-actor Sharon Washington chooses the theater to write her modern-day fairy tale childhood filled with real and imagined dragons\, family secrets\, forgiveness\, and a life filled with books. But revisiting her past comes with an unforeseen cost.\nIt is in her solitary late-night revisions to pen an ending to her solo show days before opening night that the cost appears. She must descend and dwell in her scared little girl place from long ago to finally tell the flipside of her childhood story.
