Amanda Quaid was raised in New York City. Her love of theater began in the audience of the Broadway production of Cats, and she began performing as a child dancer at the Joffrey Ballet.
Her first professional role was Juliet in Romeo and Juliet at the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival age 18, and she got her Equity card playing Rosalind in As You Like It at the Folger. She made her Broadway debut in 2008 in Equus.
Quaid has worked extensively Off-Broadway, in premieres and classical plays. Highlights include the US premiere of Cock by Mike Bartlett, world premiere of The (curious case of the) Watson Intelligence(Playwrights Horizons), Luck of the Irish (Lincoln Center/LCT3, Lortel nomination), Pericles (Public Theater, AEA St. Clair Bayfield Award for Outstanding Performance in Shakespeare), world premiere of A Public Reading of an Unproduced Screenplay About the Death of Walt Disneyby Lucas Hnath (Soho Rep), Galileo with F. Murray Abraham (CSC), The Illusion (Signature), three plays at Irish Repertory Theatre, most recently The Weir, and more. Regional work includes The Old Globe, Shakespeare Theatre, and Barrington Stage.
On TV, Quaid will be seen on the upcoming seasons of Masters of Sexand I’m Dying Up Here (Showtime). Other guest stars include Blue Bloods, Law & Order: SVU, All My Children.
She has directed two short films: Toys, which she also animated (Official Selection: Palm Springs ShortFest, LA Shorts Fest), and English, which premiered at Cannes Short Film Corner. She has a third short film and a feature screenplay in development.
As an educator, Quaid is on the faculty of HB Studio and Freeman Studio, where she teaches actors to work with dialects and heightened language. She was recently featured on WNYC’s Studio 360, teaching a British accent to host Kurt Anderson.
She graduated from Vassar with a B.A. in English and lives in Brooklyn.
