‘On the dirt roads of Arkansas I first met Robert Burns.’
Dr Maya Angelou, the African American poet and writer, discovered Robert Burns when she was eight. She was poor, black and mute living in Stamps, Arkansas. In this film she explores the strong parallels that exist in their lives. She meets enthusiastic and fanatical Burnsians, who welcome her to a party in Ayrshire in honour of her visit and Burns’ genius.
