Help Me Help Those That I Might Hurt.
Veronika, a priest, mother and devoted friend struggles with this adage. Under impossible circumstances brought upon her without her prompting, she is burdened with a life-changing secret, a secret that could destroy her best friend’s life. Challenged by her moral convictions to which she has made a public commitment as a priest, her dilemma forces her to respond to the greatest question of them all: What is the right thing to do versus what is the most compassionate thing to do, no matter the consequences?
In this story, Veronika skates the thin, red line pressuring her to choose amongst her devotion to her beloved daughter, her devotion to a moral core principal as a priest: absolute confidentiality, and her devotion to another core principal as a priest: compassionate justice. All three deep seated beliefs intersect within 24 hours of her life impacting her closest friend of over 40 years, Irene, who she dearly loves. It is within this tense, limited time span that Veronika must adhere to the virtue that clarity is our greatest act of kindness.
