Film Catalog
As an ongoing commitment to build community around film, we welcome you to explore a catalog of titles that have been shown at the Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival over the last 38 years. These films celebrate the drive, spirit and diversity of women, while sharing the stories and experiences of those often unheard or unseen.
Many films from the 2018 festival and earlier can be borrowed on DVD from the Madelyn Osur Film Library. Use the “Available on DVD” filter below to browse our collection.
Wild Waters
Adventurer, competitor, daughter, friend, pioneer, hero, and badass human are all words used to describe French kayaker, Nouria Newman. In Wild Waters, we follow Nouria as she prepares to become the first female to run a 100ft (30m) waterfall.
With This Breath I Fly
At the height of the international occupation of Afghanistan, two women – Gulnaz, raped and impregnated by her uncle, and Farida, on the run from an abusive husband – are imprisoned on charges of “moral crimes” by an Afghan justice system that is supported by billions of dollars of aid money from the European Union. Shot over ten years, With This Breath I Fly follows these two courageous women as they fight for their freedom against a patriarchal Afghan society determined to keep them bound to tribal culture, while exposing the complicity of the European Union in censoring their voices, and how the international press – and our documentary – forever alters the course of their lives.
Witness
A revered small-town imam faces a crisis of faith when he must choose between upholding the values of his mosque or protecting the safety and spiritual belonging of a trans man congregant.
Woman of the Cloth: Fabric Artist Penny Sisto
The spirit of this fabric artist softens the traumatic content of her quilts.
Women in Blue
After the fatal shooting of an unarmed woman by a police officer rocks the police department, Chief Hartneau is pushed out and a new male chief takes over, appointing only men to top level positions, threatening the gains that the women have made within the force. Women in Blue explores these women as they continue their fight for gender equality, and explores a deeper look at race, violence and diversity within policing in America.
