Eructation

Kaylee is an insanely loud burper. The world record for loudest female burp is currently set at 107.3 decibels, which is louder than a hair dryer, a lawn mower, and a leaf blower. But it’s a number that Kaylee routinely beats on her own—her loudest belch to date is 110 decibels as recorded on her decibel reader app. In this documentary short, we follow her as she prepares to go for the record.

Eructation premiered at SXSW 2026 where it won the Short Documentary Special Jury Award. It has since screened at Seattle International Film Festival, AmDocs, Milwaukee International Film Festival, Palm Springs Short Fest, Sidewalk (Winner of the Short Programmers’ Award), Hollyshorts, IndyShorts, Ouray International Film Festival, and more.

Filmmaker Notes:

This film started with a burp. Kaylee and I were hanging out on a river beach in Tygh Valley, Central Oregon. I was sat right by the cooler and she grabbed a beer, chugged it, and ripped a fat burp that reverberated off the canyon. I was so impressed that I complimented her on this belch. And full of ambition and boldness, she told me she wanted to go for the world record for loudest female burp. I thought this would be a great short documentary, but I had no plans to direct. A few good friends encouraged me to consider it, so inspired by Kaylee putting herself out there and doing something ambitious, I took the leap. The result is this little documentary about a big burp and it was so fun to make. I hope you enjoy watching it.
