We all love food. So how could we be throwing nearly half of it in the trash? Filmmakers and food lovers Jen and Grant dive into the issue of food waste from farm, through retail, all the way to the back of the fridge. After catching a glimpse of the billions of dollars of edibles that are tossed each year in North America, they pledge to quit grocery shopping and survive only on discarded food for 6 months. Examining our systemic obsession with expiry dates, perfect produce and portion sizes, Just Eat It is both deliciously entertaining and truly shocking.

Filmmaker Notes:
Have you ever ordered a burger that came with an enormous portion of fries you just couldn’t finish, or found your well-intentioned leftovers growing something fuzzy in the back of your fridge? We’ve all experienced food waste, yet so many of us overlook it and the enormous consequences it has. When my partner Grant and I heard that 40% of food waste being wasted, we had to see it for ourselves. We spent over a year visiting farmers, camping out in veggie fields, setting up timelapses of our fridge, and eating discarded food. As a small production team, we shot every shot and edited every second (Grant even scored the music), and we’re pretty proud of the end result.
