BEHIND THE SCENES (and Under Water) with Pippa Ehrlich

A Circle of Support Members Event

Join us for a conversation with the director of MY OCTOPUS TEACHER, Pippa Ehrlich. Pippa Ehrlich is a natural history filmmaker and award-winning environmental journalist, specializing in the field of marine science and conservation. Pippa has been an avid free diver for more than a decade and spent three years exploring the underwater kelp forests of Cape Town while directing MY OCTOPUS TEACHER, which won the 2021 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.  Pippa shared, ““I think what’s powerful about the film is the fact that there’s this big South African guy who is telling a deeply intimate story about an animal that is essentially a modified snail. He takes us into this fragile creature’s world and she transforms from an underwater alien into a protagonist that we can really relate to and care about. At a minimum, I think that viewers will make an emotional connection with her, but I really hope that the bigger message that comes through will be an exploration of our own identity and fragility as part of the living planet.”

We will kick off our morning event with a screening of the award-winning documentary, MY OCTOPUS TEACHER, followed by a live conversation with Pippa from South Africa.  We look forward to sharing this experience with our community of film lovers, so be sure to RSVP today!
