Drive-In Cinema: AUGUST

When 21-year-old Brody Jr.  announced his intention to give away his inheritance to anyone in need, he ignited a spiral of events that captured the media’s attention. Brody, along with his newlywed wife Renee, became instant world-wide celebrities who were then mobbed by the American public, scrutinized by the press, and overwhelmed by an avalanche of letters responding to his offer. Nearly fifty-years after Brody Jr.’s death, a sampling of the enormous surviving unopened letters sent to him were opened for the camera, exposing a snapshot of America’s hippie, communal, zeitgeist. Maitland, the film’s director, reveals the story of Brody Jr. — and the countless people who sought his help — to create an exposé on desire, need, philanthropy, and love.

The parking lot opens at 7:45 p.m., when we will welcome you with free POPCORN! We encourage attendees to TAILGATE and socialize before the film program begins approximately at 8:30 p.m.  Get settled in your vehicle, turn the radio up, and enjoy a great film on a great big screen under the stars.  Alternatively, and weather permitting, we will set up a speaker system for sound, so bring a CAMP CHAIR and layers to enjoy the film al fresco.

RMWF Drive-in Cinema is located at the former Gazette Building (704 E. Colorado Ave, 80903).  Special thanks to Norwood Development Group, our presenting sponsor, for providing this space where we can continue to build community around film.
