GUIDELINES and PROGRAMMING STATEMENT

The Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival is the longest-running women’s festival in North America and takes place in October.

  • Film submissions are accepted from February 15 – May 1
  • Submission fee is $30
  • The Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival focuses on films created by women or about women, and the selection process for films includes both submitted and solicited works.
  • 1. Submission Process
    • Open Call for Entries: Submissions can be made through our website. Our submissions platform is Submittable.
    • Criteria: Submitted films need to have either:
o A female director, producer, writer, or other key creatives.
o Strong themes around women’s experiences, empowerment, or perspectives.
    • Fees: The submission fee is $30. Waivers are given to alumni filmmakers.
    2. Solicitation Process
    • Curated Invitations: Many of the films considered for the festival are directly solicited by our selection committee.
    • Industry Connections: Festival programmers maintain connections with agents, producers, or distributors to scout films that align with the festival’s theme.

• Diversity of Representation: To ensure a variety of perspectives, the festival may solicit films from different cultural backgrounds, highlighting women’s stories from around the world.
• All films, both submitted and solicited, go through the same selection process.
3. Selection Committee
• Film Selection Committee (FSC): A committee of volunteer programmers, headed by our Artistic Director, conducts the initial review of both solicited and submitted films. They look for thematic relevance, creativity, technical execution, and emotional impact.
• Previewers: Films that meet the festival’s standards are then shared with a larger group of previewers, who watch and evaluate films. Our goal is to have an average of ten evaluations for every film that makes it through to the final programming meeting.
• Final Selection: The FSC makes the final selections for the festival, based on the evaluations and feedback from previewers and other members of the FSC. The committee may ensure balance between genres, styles, and the diversity of filmmakers.
