Fazila Amiri is an Afghan-Canadian director and screenwriter based in Toronto. She holds an MFA in Film Production from York University and a BFA in Film Studies from NSCAD University. Her films explore social issues, women’s rights and youth culture in her native Afghanistan. Her first feature documentary film, AND STILL I SING (2022) screened at the 2022 Hot Docs, Sheffield Doc Fest, Calgary International Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival and won the FEARLESS Award at Doc Edge Festival. Fazila is an alumni of the 2021 Cannes Docs, Hot Docs Accelerator Lab, RIDM Talent Lab, Telefilm Canada’s Talent to Watch, and the winner of Hot Doc’s Lindalee Tracey Award and Don Haig Award, Pay it Forward Prize.
