Filmed over the course of eight years and told from the unique perspective of both survivors and perpetrator, Great Photo, Lovely Life is a powerful portrait of intergenerational trauma, redemption and the corrosiveness of family secrets. A unique documentary for the unexpectedly direct and unflinching way it explores family tragedy and sexual assault, it places Mustard at its heart as she takes on the role of filmmaker, journalist, mediator, sister, daughter and healer. As a result, the film is less concerned with what took place than on the dangers of unexpressed anger and the devastating impact of remaining silent.
Features original scoring by Dan Deacon (Mustard played the marimba on the score) and animation direction by Charlie Tyrell of My Dead Dad’s Porno Tapes.
