Film Library
As an ongoing commitment to build community around film, we welcome you to explore a catalog of titles that have been shown at the Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival over the last 35 years. These films celebrate the drive, spirit and diversity of women, while sharing the stories and experiences of those often unheard or unseen.
Artemisia
An artist (Michel Serrault) encourages his daughter’s (Valentina Cervi) delvings into areas previously forbidden female painters in 17th-century Rome.
Animated Women- Lynn Smith: Method
Part of the Animated Women series of two half-hour programs exploring both the artistry and the diverse creative outlooks of two remarkably talented filmmakers: Faith Hubley and Lynn Smith.
Angry Man
Angry Man is a film about secrets that shouldn’t be secret. When the mommy-fish dies, Boj has had enough, and gets power from his own fantasy to go further.
Angry
A short film dealing with a young woman, Alison, and her attempts to come to terms with her family – especially her mother.
Angelou on Burns
Maya Angelou makes a pilgrimage to the birthplace of Robert Burns in Scotland to explore the strong parallels in their lives.
An Unlikely Friendship
In 1971 the lives of two people were transformed and helped change their town in North Carolina. A white Klansman and a black sharecropper’s daughter had nothing in common except to hope for their children.
American Outrage
Why is the United States government spending millions persecuting and prosecuting two elderly women grazing a few horses and cows in a desolate desert? The U. S. Bureau of Land Management insists the sisters are degrading the land. The sisters say the real reason is the resources hidden below this seemingly barren land. It is the second largest gold producing area in the world.
Beauty Mark
In this courageous, deeply personal new film, Diane Israel examines Western culture’s toxic emphasis on thinness, beauty, and physical perfection. Israel, a psychotherapist and former champion triathlete, talks candidly about her own struggle with eating disorders and obsessive exercising, fearlessly confronting her own painful past as she tries to come to terms with our unhealthy fixation on self-destructive ideals of beauty and competitiveness. The film lends context to Israel’s personal odyssey with fascinating insights from athletes, body builders, fashion models, and inner-city teens, as well as prominent cultural critics and authors such as Eve Ensler, Paul Campos, and Naomi Wolf.
Beautiful Son
The filmmakers are the parents of Beau, whose change in behavior during the third year of his life led to a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. They take us on their quest to save their son from a condition that is no longer considered rare.
Beatrice Wood: Mama of Dada
This film provides an unusual glimpse into the lives, loves, and influences of this incredible woman artist who seems as well known for her eccentric personality as for her art.
Be Good, Smile Pretty
After typing her father’s name into a web search engine, Tracy started a quest to learn about his death on a U.S. Naval swift boat in Vietnam. This film reminds us how reaffirming remembering a life can be.
Baker’s Men
In an urban park, two preteen girls play patty cake and sing the song about the baker’s men. They observe two boys playing with mock swords. These divisions of play into gender roles cause the girls to start talking as if they were sociologists and psychologists discussing learned behaviors. Given their jaded and precocious sophistication, is there anything the girls can look forward to?
